Shots fired on Emory University campus in Atlanta. Shooter is dead, authorities say
Just after 5 p.m. on Friday, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia reported an active shooter on its campus. Later, The Associated Press reported that authorities said the suspected shooter near the campuses of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory was dead and one law enforcement officer had been injured after police responded to reports of the situation. Emory University announced in a post on X that the shelter-in-place order on campus had been lifted, but for people to avoid the area. Early on, the university posted alerts on its website and social media advising people to shelter in place and avoid the area near Emory Point, which is a mixed used development with stores, restaurants and apartments, according to The New York Times. A post from the university's Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response said 'Emory Emergency: Active shooter on Emory Atlanta Campus at Emory Point CVS. RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Avoid the area.' The Atlanta Police Department released a statement saying it was investigating and was still gathering information, per CNN. The FBI is also en route to the scene. NBC News reported that a DeKalb County officer had been injured and was taken to a nearby hospital. Details about the nature of the injuries have not been released. A suspect was encountered by local police who attempted to engage the person when gunfire was exchanged, according to ABC News. The school's campus is near the headquarters for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is not clear if the shooting was related to the federal agency. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp posted on X about the shooting, which occurred two just days after a shooting on a Georgia military base. 'Marty, the girls, and I are thankful for all those who answer the call to serve and who protect their fellow Georgians. We ask that you join us in holding them in our prayers, along with those harmed this evening near the CDC Center,' the governor wrote.

Shooter at Emory University Campus Injures Police Officer
A suspect has been killed and a police officer critically injured after reports of an active shooter at Emory University in Atlanta, local police said. Officers responded to reports of an active shooter at a CVS Pharmacy at roughly 4:50 p.m., Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said at a news conference Friday night. There, they found a DeKalb County police officer who had been critically injured.

'Twice this week, deranged criminals have targeted innocent Georgians,' Kemp wrote on X. 'We ask that you join us in holding them in our prayers, along with those harmed this evening near the CDC Center,' he said.

(Emory University) ATLANTA — Police were responding Friday to a report of an active shooter on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, near the entrance to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Atlanta police did not immediately say whether anyone was injured in the shooting. The university warned students and others on the campus to shelter in place. The university told students to 'RUN, HIDE, FIGHT' and avoid the area, according to the alert. Atlanta police said they were responding to reports of an active shooter. Staff at a deli near campus locked the doors and hunkered down inside. Brandy Giraldo, General Muir's chief operating officer, said staffers inside heard a string of gunshots.
